In January 2025, CDPC made a submission to the Ontario government’s request for public comment on Bill 242, the Safer Municipalities Act, 2024 – Restricting Public Consumption of Illegal Substances Act, 2024. While Bill 242 died on the order paper when the provincial election was called, it was re-introduced on April 30, 2025 as Bill 6. As of May 14, 2025, Bill 6 is in its second reading. A coalition of more than 50 organizations, including CDPC, have written to the Premier to express their opposition to this bill that will harm unhoused people who use drugs in Ontario.
