Jaime Arredondo Sanchez Lira is an assistant professor at the School of Public Health and Social Policy (PHSP) at the University of Victoria, B.C. and a Canada Research Chair on Substance Use and Health Policy, at the Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research (CISUR). His work on the US-Mexico border seeks to implement and evaluate evidence-based harm reduction policies such as safe consumption sites, fentanyl drug checking, and community distribution of naloxone to prevent overdoses. His research seeks to transform the public debate by viewing substance use as a public health issue rather than a public safety one.
