We are working to transform our approach to alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
In May of 2009 representatives of 30 NGOs in Canada came together to discuss the need for a strong civil society movement to advocate for improvements to Canada’s approach to drug policy. After two days of meeting the following vision was agreed upon:
“CDPC envisions a safe, healthy and just Canada in which drug policy and legislation as well as related institutional practice are based on evidence, human rights, social inclusion and public health”.
Our work is grounded in our vision of a healthy and just Canada. Today a 15 member steering committee oversees the work of the CDPC operations which are based at the Centre for Applied Research in Mental Health and Addictions at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver BC, Canada and extend across the country through our partnerships and networks. CDPC is planning a program of public dialogue and action over the coming months to engage Canadians and build a coalition to support innovative and effective responses to drug related problems.
The Canadian Drug Policy Coalition is an independent civil society network of organizations and individuals working to improve Canada’s drug policies. Your donation will help support this work. It’s easy and much appreciated. To make a donation please visit the SFU Secure Donation page.
