Canadian Drug Policy Timeline.
A historical perspective is critical for an informed political process.
Our current approach to drug policy has endured since the early 1900’s. To understand how we are doing today a historical perspective is instructive. Substance use has been with us since the dawn of time and will continue to be a part of our culture. The CDPC drug policy timeline charts specific policies as well as formative events and movements documented in Canadian history.
Our Drug Policy Timeline is a work in process and we would like to invite more contributions to create a richer historical view and understanding. If you have information on important events in the development of Canada’s drug policy that you would like to see added, please send descriptions and references to: firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks to Connie Carter and Susan Boyd at the University of Victoria for their historical research.
